Su Han Chan holds a
Ph.D. degree in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. She
joined the Department of Real Estate at Baruch College/CUNY as a Full
Professor in Spring 2009. Prior to that, she was a Full Professor at
the Mihaylo School of Business at California State University-Fullerton
and at the School of Business at the University of Hong Kong. She has
also taught at the University of Texas at Austin as a Visiting Associate
Dr. Chan has taught real estate and finance courses in graduate and
undergraduate programs in the U.S. and in Asia as well as in executive
training programs for multinational corporations (such as the Bass
Hospitality Group, DHL, and Chatham Financial) and the Cornell-Nanyang
Technological University professional development program. She has received teaching and research awards at California State
University-Fullerton and at the University of Hong Kong.
Dr. Chan has published widely in the leading finance and real estate
finance journals including the Journal of Financial Economics
(3), Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis (1),
Journal of Business (1), Real Estate Economics (2),
Journal of Real Estate Research (8), and others. Her works have been
cited in the leading finance and real estate journals as well as in the
leading accounting, management, and industrial organization journals.
She also co-authored a book on Real Estate Investment Trusts (Oxford
University Press, New York, 2003) and co-wrote 21 Asian business
cases and teaching notes that are being distributed by the Harvard
Business School Publishing, the European Case Clearing House, and the
Asia Case Research Center. She has presented research papers at numerous conferences around the U.S. and in Asia, and has twice won best conference paper awards.
When Dr. Chan was at the University of Hong Kong, she served as the
Coordinator of the Citicorp Doctoral Program (1996), the Director of the
MBA program (1996-1998), and the Coordinator of the BBA(Law)/LLB program
(1999-2001). She received over US$111,000 in competitive research grants
from the Hong Kong government. She has been serving as an Academic
Advisor to the Asia Case Research Center at the University of Hong Kong
since its inception in 1997.
Dr. Chan currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of
Real Estate Research and the International Real Estate Review.
She has served as an Editorial Board member of the Financial
Management Survey and Synthesis Series, as a Guest Co-Editor for the
2007 special issue of the Review of Financial Economics, as an
Associate Editor of the Journal of Financial Research from
1997-2000, as a referee for several academic journals, and as a
Consultant on the examinations committee of the Hong Kong Securities
Institute from 1999-2001.
